I congratulate the Government of Gujarat and the Gujarat Maritime Board for setting up the Gujarat Maritime University – the first in the state. I am confident that the university will provide unlimited opportunities in the maritime sector for the talented youth of Gujarat.

The Government of India has undertaken several proactive initiatives to realise the vast and untapped potential in the maritime sector. Being home to a number of world-class ports, and the largest coastline among the Indian states, Gujarat has the potential to spearhead India’s transformation into a global maritime superpower.

In order to keep pace with the changing trends in the maritime industry, India has to focus on building a skilled and competent human capital.

I therefore see the setting up of the Gujarat Maritime University as a game-changer. The university will be instrumental in reinforcing Gujarat’s image as the leading state in Maritime infrastructure and trade. The youth of the country stands to gain immensely out of yet another laudable and proactive initiative by the Government of Gujarat.
