About us

‘Free trade’ is the normal new in 21st Century driving all countries to be part of it so as reap benefits arising out of trade. There is every possibility that trade across borders in the coming years will increase enormously and with that the growth of employment and research opportunities. Therefore, GMU being one of the few institutions offering post graduate degree exclusively in international trade law, is having the ‘early bird opportunity’ to serve the cause of research in international trade and other allied subjects like investment, arbitration etc. on par with other premier institutions.

To make the Centre a global Centre of excellence for research in international trade law and other allied subjects like investment on par with other premier Centres.

Mission of the Centre

Centre strives to-

  1. Promote and facilitate collaborative and/or interdisciplinary research.
  2. Provide education and training in international trade law and allied subjects like investment law, arbitration etc.
  3. Disseminate the knowledge gained through research for the benefit of society.
  4. Generate external research funding to further the vision of the Centre.

  • The Centre encourages research through genuine, honest methods which add real Value to the existing knowledge in the field of international trade law.
  • Supports the genuine academic cause of any or all of the stakeholders.

Scope and Functions of the Centre

The Centre

  • Organizes Seminars/Conferences and other academic events through networking with experts in the field of international trade law and allied subjects like investment law, economic law, arbitration etc.
  • Organizes short term courses and short- term training courses on international trade law and allied subjects mentioned above.
  • Contributes to research and expansion of knowledge on international trade law through publication of Books, articles in specialist journals etc.
  • Collaborates with institutes of national and international repute for working in the field of international trade law and allied subjects mentioned above.
  • Plan and execute outreach activities beneficial to all the stakeholders.

Five Year Plan

First year

  1. Organizing webinars, conferences and other academic events.
  2. Organizing a short-term certificate course on international trade law.
  3. Identifying key research areas in international trade law.

Second Year

  1. Organizing webinars, conferences and other academic events.
  2. Organizing a certificate course on foreign trade law of India.
  3. Publishing research articles in leading national and international journals.
  4. Coming out with the Edited Book on ‘International commercial arbitration in India.
  5. To collaborate with national and international bodies working in the field of international trade law, investment law etc.

Third Year

  1. Organizing webinars, conferences and other academic events.
  2. Organizing a certificate course on international economic law.
  3. Coming out with the Text Book on International Contracts of Sale of Goods.
  4. Publishing research articles in leading national and international journals.
  5. Starting bi-annual journal on Foreign Trade Law of India.

Fourth Year

  1. Organizing webinars, conferences and other academic events.
  2. Organizing a certificate course on International Commercial Arbitration.
  3. Coming out with a publication on International commercial organization.
  4. Publishing research articles in leading national and international journals.
  5. Organizing events in partnership with ICC, WTI, UNCTAD and other leading international organizations working in areas related to international trade.

Fifth Year

  • Organizing Webinars, Seminar and other academic events.
  • Organizing certificate course on foreign trade law.
  • Come out with commentary on A DIGEST ON WTO DISPUTES.
  • Publishing research articles in leading national and international journals.
  • To start a quarterly journal on foreign trade law.
