Submission Guidelines

About the Journal

The GMU Journal of Maritime Research (JMR) is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed academic journal published by Gujarat Maritime University. The journal aims to advance knowledge and research in the field of maritime affairs, logistics, shipping, port management, maritime law, and sustainability.

Manuscript Submission

Authors should submit their manuscripts electronically via the journal’s submission portal or email as a Word document (.docx). All submissions must be original, unpublished work and not under consideration elsewhere.

Formatting Guidelines

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point
  • Spacing: Double-spaced throughout
  • Margins: 1 inch on all sides
  • Title: Bold, Centered, 14-point
  • Abstract: 150–300 words with 4–6 keywords
  • Headings: Use a maximum of three levels
  • Referencing Style: APA 7th edition

Article Types

The journal welcomes the following types of submissions:

  • Research Articles (5,000–8,000 words)
  • Review Articles (up to 6,000 words)
  • Case Studies (up to 4,000 words)
  • Book Reviews (up to 1,500 words)

Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening. Those considered suitable are sent for double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. Final decisions are made by the editorial board.

Ethics and Disclosure

Authors must follow ethical guidelines in publishing, including full disclosure of funding sources, conflicts of interest, and proper citation of prior work. Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited.

Open Access and Copyright

The GMU Journal of Maritime Research is an open-access journal. Authors retain copyright but grant the journal a license to publish the article. Articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY).

Plagiarism Policy

All manuscripts submitted to the GMU Journal of Maritime Research must be original and free from plagiarism. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work does not contain any form of copied content from other sources without appropriate citation.

The journal employs standard plagiarism detection software to screen all submissions. Manuscripts found to have a similarity index exceeding 10% (excluding properly quoted and referenced material) may be rejected outright or returned to the authors for revision.

Forms of plagiarism include, but are not limited to:

  • Verbatim copying of another’s work without acknowledgment
  • Improper paraphrasing of previously published material
  • Self-plagiarism, i.e., reusing one’s own previously published content without proper reference

All authors are expected to adhere to high standards of academic integrity. Any breach of this policy may lead to blacklisting of the author(s), retraction of the article (if already published), and notification to affiliated institutions.
