Dr. Mohit Gupta is the Assistant Professor at the Gujarat Maritime University and heads the Center for Research on Maritime Labour Law. He is also a key member of various committees and projects, including the Research Team for the GMU-International Seafarers Welfare and Assistance Network Research Project and a member of the Board of Management and Board of Studies at GMU.

Dr. Gupta qualified the UGC-NET exam in 2018 and possesses a BA-LLB from the National Law University, Lucknow and LLM in International Law from the South Asian University, New Delhi. His areas of specialization include Law of the Sea, Maritime Labour Law, Admiralty Law and Public International Law.
With multiple papers published for reputed national and international Maritime journals, most recent being his paper titled “Assessment of Role of Admiralty Courts in India in Protecting Abandoned Seafarers Onboard Vessels in Indian Ports”, Transactions on Maritime Science. Split, Croatia, 11(2), 2022. He has presented his research at numerous national and international conferences, the most prestigious being at the 2022 ASLI Conference organized by the University of Tokyo on ‘Assessment of Flag state role in seafarer abandonment situation’.

Dr. Gupta has multiple fellowships and awards under belt. In October 2022, he was awarded a full fellowship by Korean Maritime Institute to participate in Yeosu Academy on Law of the Sea, held at Yeosu, South Korea and was awarded the Diploma with ‘Magna cum Laude’ in Law of the Sea by Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Republic of Korea. He was also awarded a fellowship by United Nations for participating in the one-month-long United Nations Regional Course in International Law for Asia and Pacific Region held at United Nations Regional Office in Thailand in 2019.

He has been invited as a guest speaker to deliver sessions on various Maritime and Shipping related courses at prestigious universities in India and abroad, including Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology, Gujarat National Law University, University of Petroleum and Energy Resources, Dehradun, Karnavati University, Tamil Nadu National Law University, Government Law College, Veluppuram, VM Salgolkar College of Law, etc. Over the years, he has attended numerous training programmes, workshops, and faculty development programmes, conducted by institutions like IIM Lucknow, South Asian University, Dhaka University etc.
