Dr. Gogisetti Venkata Narasimha Rao is the Associate Professor of Law at the Gujarat Maritime University and a member of Academic Council and supervisor for Ph.D. studies. His area of specialization includes International Commercial Law, International Economic Law, International Investment Law and International Commercial Arbitration. At present, Mr. Rao is teaching international commercial law, World Trade Organization Law and India & Foreign Trade to LLM students.
Dr. Rao has an expansive career of more than 35 years as a lawyer, professor and as a bank official. With over two decades of service at the Bank of Baroda, and a decade of teaching experience at reputed education institutions in India, Dr. Rao has the knowledge and experience that makes him an asset to GMU.
In 2012, Dr. Rao completed his Ph.D. in MFN Treatment in International Trade Agreements with Special Reference to Investment Agreements – An International Perspective from Osmania University, Hyderabad. Over the years, multiple articles by Dr. Rao on banking and varied legal topics have been published in distinguished journals. In 2015, his article on the “Practice of Manual Scavenging” was published in ‘LAWASIA’, a journal published by University of Queensland, Australia. His article on ‘Changing Trends of International Commercial Arbitration in India’ was placed on the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London website and published in e-newsletter of SAARC Arbitration Council, Islamabad. In 2021, a revised version of the article was published in Aut Aut Research Journal ISSN NO: 0005-0601.
Dr. Rao has been invited as a guest speaker by multiple institutions including National Institute Jindal Global University, Bank Management, Adani Institute Infrastructure Management, Manikchand Pahade Law College and Bank of Baroda to present on topics like banking law, loan agreements and other legal topics and acted as an arbitrator/judge in multiple moot court sessions.
He is an accredited arbitrator and member on the panel of various national and international arbitration centers like the Indian Council of Arbitration, New Delhi, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London, Vienna International Arbitration Centre, Vienna, etc. and a member of the Indian Institute of Law, New Delhi and Osmania University Centre for International Programmes.
